History of Albany

Albany is a neighbourhood in northwest Edmonton, which was established in 2009 through the adoption of the Albany Neighbourhood Structure Plan (NSP).  The neighbourhood of Albany encompasses approximately 81 hectares and is one of five neighbourhoods identified in the Palisades Area Structure Plan (ASP).  Bordered by the Anthony Henday on the north and west side of the neighbourhood and by 167 ave. and 127th st on the south and east, this neighbourhood offers excellent access to major transportation routes around The City of Edmonton.

Built as part of The City of Edmonton’s Smart Choices Program, this neighbourhood was developed to be more compact, walkable and transit-oriented with improved building and site design.  This program is meant to build a vibrant and engaged community.

 Amenities near Albany

A neighbourhood park is located in the north-western portion of the neighbourhood. This park is intended to serve as a gathering place for residents and to provide opportunities for passive and active recreation. Multi use Trails are used through out this neighbourhood to link the residential and commercial spaces to the natural areas.

Located in the south east corner of this neighbourhood is Newcastle Center, with a mix of Big Box and local retailers, allowing residents of Albany quick access for most day to day shopping needs.  With easy access to the Anthony Henday ring road residents can quickly access other areas of the city at ease.

Why Live in Albany?

Albany contains an approximate 11 hectare natural reserve, this area is composed of a relatively large wetland complex including a fresh water marsh, wet meadow and upland forest area to provide for waterfowl and song bird habitat within the Natural Reserve. The Albany commercial centers are estimated to create between 1,200 to 1,500 full time jobs, allowing residents to work and live in very close proximity to reduce commute times.  Conveniently located, residents of this new community are given easy access to arterial roads.  With a mix of low density and medium density this neighbourhood offers a wide variety of living options to appeal to most buyers.
