History of the Bulyea Heights Neighbourhood

Bulyea Heights was named after George Hedley Vicars Bulyea (1859-1928) who was the first Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta. The majority of the residences within the neighbourhood were constructed in the 1970s, and primarily single-detached homes and some medium density units make up the neighbourhood.  Prior to being developed as a residential neighbourhood, the land in Bulyea Heights had been cleared for farming.Bulyea Heights was a neighbourhood defined in the 1979 Riverbend Area Structure Plan, and covers approximately125 hectares in the southwest sector of the city along the Whitemud Creek Ravine. The presence of the Whitemud Creek Ravine, running the eastern length of Bulyea Heights, is the most striking feature of the neighbourhood.
