History of the MacTaggart Neighbourhood

Located in Southwest Edmonton, most of the building in this community was completed after 2005 and consists mostly of single-family homes, however there are some condos, townhomes and duplexes in the mix. This area is particularly well-known for great resale value, compared to the rest of the City, which likely has something to do with its access to the Airport via the Anthony Henday and all the amenities around it.

This neighbourhood strives to incorporate bicycling and pedestrian opportunities throughout and the connection to Rabbit Hill Road and the Whitemud Creek Ravine, offers high-value access to natural outdoor spaces.

According to the City of Edmonton, the neighbourhood has a namesake:

“The MacTaggart neighbourhood takes its name from Sandy Auld Mactaggart, a local entrepreneur and philanthropist with provincial, national and international achievements in business, the arts, and education. Sandy Auld Mactaggart was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1928 and moved to Canada at the age of 1.”

 Mactaggart Homeowner’s Association (HOA)

There is no active Homeowner’s Association in this community, however, MacTaggart falls under the umbrella of the Terwilliger Community League. This league offers a great website and is very active in all the communities it represents. A few things this League is responsible for are: Neighbourhood Watch, Traffic Committee, Social Events, Volunteer Opportunities, Parks and Playgrounds and the Community Gardens.

The Community League has no say or control over traffic violations, snow removal or noise complaints regarding fellow residents.

The League is currently tackling a park project in MacTaggart, with plans available on their website and are also gathering public input regarding the school situation. With many new developments in the city, public schools are filling up fast and the League is working on possible solutions for their communities.
